How buying a gun in Vernal works
Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Utah law allows.
Utah has no permit to purchase, no registration and no waiting period. Utah is a point-of-contact state, so your dealer sends the check to the Bureau of Criminal Identification instead of calling NICS directly. You show ID and complete ATF Form 4473 as usual, and a Utah concealed firearm permit does not replace the check. The federal age of 21 for a handgun from a dealer applies to every used and trade-in pistol. Once BCI approves, the dealer can release it.

Carrying a gun in Uintah County
Since May 5, 2021, adults 21 and older who may lawfully possess a firearm can carry it in Utah, concealed or openly, without a permit. The Bureau of Criminal Identification issues the concealed firearm permit statewide, not the county sheriff. The permit runs five years and needs a course from a BCI-certified instructor. Residents 18 to 20 may apply for a provisional permit. Secure areas of airports, courthouses, jails and posted private property remain off limits.
